Satellite Phone Voice Calls Part 1
A testing methodology was designed to guarantee that any deviations measured would be due to the satellite phone system. All calls were placed to land lines within the United States. None of the information that was collected from these calls were originated or placed overseas or to cellular networks. All phone calls were made from both locations, California and Texas.
Voice Calls Part 2
The second stage of the research was to take extensive testing of the two satellite phone handsets in even more challenging environments. The two environments were rural and urban. The testing was organized in a way where both satellite phones would be tested under increasingly severe degration conditions. The rural testing brought in features such as rugged landscapes and foliage, and the urban testing measured the effect of the proverbial “urban canyon.”
Satellite Telephone Data Calls Part 1
This experiment of the data service was divided into two parts for the following reason: The satellite phones were tested using file transfer protocol downloads from a server located on a high-speed connection to the Internet to enable quantitative measures. Multiple downloads were made and two files were chosen in order to achieve the data rates.
