The New Globalstar Alaskan Gateway is on-line!
Globalstar’s new gateway serving Alaska went in full commercial service at 10:00 PM Pacific Time June 20, 2006 a full month ahead of schedule. Once in service the gateway immediately started processing calls placed from all over the state of Alaska form the North Slope to the Aleutians. The gateway located in Wasilla, Alaska was placed to provide coverage everywhere in Alaska and the Bering Sea as far north as the 66 degrees. Acceptable coverage can be obtained as far north at 70 degrees. The performance of the gateway exceeds Globalstar’s expectations.
Globalstar has offered limited coverage in the southeastern quarter of the state of Alaska since 2000. The opening of Globalstar’s sixth North American gateway provides enhanced service in Alaska, northwestern British Columbia, and the Yukon.
Globalstar’s multi million dollar investment represents Globalstar’s commitment to the Alaska marketplace. Many of the customers in Alaska have been anticipating this new enhanced service. Jay Monroe, Chairman and CEO of Globalstar, Inc. stated “We have been extremely pleased with the response from the regional marketplace since launching a series of local promotions in preparation for the opening.”
The new Globalstar enhanced service will provide customers an affordable communication choice. In the past Alaskan customers had few communication choices for areas not covered by cellular service.
