Globalstar is closer to opening its Sebring, Florida Gateway
April 21, 2005 Globalstar has filed an application with the (FCC) U.S. Federal Communication Commission for the permission and authority to operate the Globalstar Gateway located at Sebring, Florida. This Gateway in South Florida is planned to be fully operational by the summer of 2005. Once this Gateway is operational it will greatly improve the Globalstar satellite phone service in this area particularly at sea. This area will include the Gulf of Mexico and Atlantic Ocean. There have been certain areas in the Caribbean that have been on the fringes of Globalstar’s North American coverage, particularly at sea.There are four Globalstar Gateways that currently cover the United States, Canada, and the Caribbean. There is one in Eastern Canada and one in Western Canada. There is a Gateway in Clifton, TX as well as a gateway in Puerto Rico which serves the majority of the Caribbean. Each Globalstar gateway has a service radius of about 1,500 miles which provides voice, fax and data service to Globalstar customers. The demand for Globalstar satellite service in the southeastern United States and northern Caribbean continues to grow beyond projections. With the addition of this fifth Globalstar Gateway in Sebring, Florida will not only enhance coverage for Globalstar customers it will insure customers will continue to receive the best voice clarity and reliable service which Globalstar has been know to provide it subscribers.
With additional services like fax and enhanced data Globalstar has experience an increase in the demand from both recreational and commercial customers in the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean.
