There are two approved simplex transmitters to choose from. Both are battery operated, wireless data devices. The GMC Sentinel Transmitter and the Axonn AXTracker Simplex Transmitter both have a two year battery life. The Axonn Transmitter can be purchased with a DC line/charging option. The batteries can be easily replaced in the field. Power consumption estimates are based upon six messages per day. These units have a small physical footprint and has a very low-power transmit, sleep and standby mode operation. The integrated L-band antenna will need mounted with sky visibility. Quick and easy installation can be preformed in the field. The unit will send 6 GPS locations reports each day or the unit can be programmed to send transmissions hourly, daily, weekly ect. The reports will be available for customer on the Globalstar website. The service gives a view of the last GPS report or can link to commonly used Mapquest for a graphical picture of the unit’s location. The devises also will include one digital port input which can give additional monitoring and event-driven capabilities. Example of this event-driven capabilities include if the temperature drops below a certain level in a refrigerated vehicle or a door switch is activated. The monitoring solutions can greatly benefit customers where transports are going beyond cellular based monitoring devices. Examples of industries that can benefit from this technology include: Forestry, Oil & Gas, Maritime, Fleet Management, Mining and Public safety.
How does the Globalstar Simplex Technology work? The simplex messages are transmitted using the Globalstar satellite network using an uplink only connection. This is a one way only data transmission. To ensure reception multiple messages are sent over several minutes at each transmission interval. When the Globalstar system confirms the message has been received it deletes the repeated messages. The customer only is only charged for the first confirmed message.
The current monthly fee for this service is $34.95 which includes 200 messages a month. There is an overage fee of $7.95 for up to 50 additional messages. The 200 individual reports are based on 9 byte message size. Messages are comprised of 6 GPS location reports each day. Remainder of monthly messages is available for other digital input requirements.
