GlobalCom Provides Satellite Communication to the Caribbean

After the killer hurricanes of last year numbers businesses in the Caribbean are preparing for emergency satellite phone communication. With hurricane Dennis being the earliest hurricane on record since 1932 this year hurricane season has started early. GlobalCom is the leading supplier of satellite phone services and equipment in the United States and has recently provided satellite phone equipment for a number of businesses in the Caribbean. One of the businesses preparing for future hurricanes is RBTT Bank which has purchased the hand held Globalstar satellite phone for their locations in St. Lucia, Aruba, Barbados, and Jamaica. Also Digicel has purchased both the Globalstar hand held unit with docking stations as well as the Globalstar FAU-200 fixed site unit for use in a number of offices needing communication in a building. Digicel placed these units in locations in Jamaica and Haiti. These businesses are prepared in the event a hurricane disrupts the local land-line or cellular networks. The Globalstar phone will provide communication even in areas of total devastation where all other telephone communication is disrupted. Globalstar's new liberty plans is an excellent solution for emergency communications because with the Globalstar Annual Liberty Plan the minutes includes can be used anytime during the year. The phones would be active all year and during an immediate need the majority of the minutes can be used in a short period of time which is very cost effective. The Liberty plans have been very popular for the customers needing emergency communication or need seasonal usage. The package minutes are not lost each month like is the case with one of the monthly plans. Another great advantage to the customer that subscribes to one of the Liberty plans if the customer purchases and activates multiple phones with the same Liberty plan all the minutes can be pooled across all the phones. Heavy users can use a majority of the minutes while light users use a minimum amount of minutes.

Globalstar announced in July of 2005 their new gateway in Sebring, FL is not fully functional. This newest gateway will improve service for customers in the Caribbean. The Sebring gateway will provide overlapping coverage in the Caribbean along with the Globalstar gateway in Clifton, TX. This overlapping coverage in similar to the overlapping coverage provided by the gateways in Saudi Arabia and Turkey which serves Iraq. It has been proven the overlapping coverage prevents dropped calls and greatly improves the quality of service to the user of the Globalstar phone. The Sebring gateway also has improved coverage in the Bahamas which was served by a gateway in Canada. GlobalCom has prepared for the demands of this hurricane season by increasing the amount of inventory and staff needed to provide excellent service to customers in need.
